Dinacharya: The Ayurvedic Daily Routine for Optimal Health
By Rohan Verma • July 22, 2024
Dinacharya, the Ayurvedic daily routine, is a powerful practice for maintaining health and preventing disease. By aligning our daily activities with the natural rhythms of the day, we can support our body's innate intelligence.
Morning Routine (6 AM - 10 AM)
- Wake Up Early: Aim to wake before sunrise, during the Vata time of day.
- Cleanse: Scrape your tongue, brush your teeth, and drink a glass of warm water.
- Exercise: Engage in gentle exercise like yoga or a walk to awaken the body.
Midday Routine (10 AM - 2 PM)
This is the Pitta time of day, when the digestive fire (agni) is strongest. This is the ideal time to eat your largest meal of the day. Focus on nourishing, whole foods.
Evening Routine (6 PM - 10 PM)
As the Kapha energy of the evening sets in, it's time to wind down. Eat a light dinner, spend quality time with loved ones, and dim the lights. Avoid stimulating activities and screens before bed to prepare for a restful sleep.
