Eating for Your Dosha: A Simple Guide
By Priya Desai • August 01, 2024
In Ayurveda, food is medicine. Eating according to your dominant dosha can help maintain balance and prevent imbalances from taking root.
For Vata Balance (Pacify with Warmth and Oil)
Favor warm, moist, and grounding foods. Think soups, stews, and cooked grains. Incorporate sweet, sour, and salty tastes. Moderate cold, dry, and crunchy foods like raw salads and crackers.
For Pitta Balance (Cool Down with Fresh Foods)
Choose cooling, refreshing, and substantial foods. Fresh fruits, salads, and steamed vegetables are excellent. Favor sweet, bitter, and astringent tastes. Reduce spicy, sour, and salty foods, as well as alcohol and caffeine.
For Kapha Balance (Stimulate with Lightness and Spice)
Opt for light, warm, and dry foods. Spiced vegetables, legumes, and whole grains are beneficial. Emphasize pungent, bitter, and astringent tastes. Minimize heavy, oily, and cold foods, including dairy and fried items.
